2009 Pitcher Indicator Ratings
How to read this table
A pitcher's effectiveness is closely tied to the number of baserunners he allows and the number of strikeouts he gets.
This table uses a rating system of K/BB + K/9IP - (BB+H)/9IP - HR/9IP. This formula is
best used as an indicator of future performance of a pitcher. A pitcher may have a low era after 15-20 innings, but may
not have been pitching as effectively as the era indicates. A look at this rating system will be a good way to tell if the
pitcher will continue with the low era or will soon run into some trouble.
The average rating for a pitcher with more than 100 IP is -3.5 and 4.40 ERA.
Any rating of above 0 is very good. A minimum of 10 IP is required for the list.
The use of this rating will be stronger as the pitcher throws more innings. The closer a pitcher gets to 100 innings or more, the
more his era and overall performance will be strongly tied to the rating. Near the end of the season this table can
be used to predict a pitchers performance in upcoming seasons.
