Recent Blog Post: Ducks' early-season schedule
Is anyone else confused about the Ducks' early-season schedule? Fine, they played the two-game exhibition against the Kings in the U.K. over the weekend. But then, they're scheduled again on the road on Wednesday, the first day that any other team is playing, and on the road in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday? Meanwhile, the Kings aren't scheduled for their third game until Saturday, and teams like the Capitals aren't scheduled for their first game until Friday. So the Ducks play essentially five road games spanning six time zones in nine days, while some teams don't even kick off the season until the day of their fourth game. One might wonder about taking the money line on Columbus on Friday.

| The Kings on Monday fired assistants Mike Johnston and Dave Lewis and named Mark Hardy to new coach Terry Murray’s staff. Johnston, who spent the past two seasons as a Kings’ associate coach, has been offered a position to remain within the organization. Lewis, who has head-coaching experience with Detroit (2002-04) and Boston (2006-07), was dismissed after just one year with the team. Hardy, 49, joins the Kings after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant with the Chicago Blackhawks. Murray’s staff also includes Jamie Kompon, Nelson Emerson and goaltending coach Bill Ranford. |

| Terry Murray was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Kings on Thursday, replacing Marc Crawford, who was fired on June 10. The Kings tabbed Murray as Crawford’s successor even though he has not been a head coach in the NHL since he was dismissed by the Florida Panthers following the 2000-01 season. Murray, 57, who guided the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1997, had spent the past four seasons as an assistant with the Flyers. He was hired by the Kings in part because of his relationship with Los Angeles general manager Dean Lombardi, who was a scout for the Flyers after he was fired by the Sharks during the 2002-03 campaign. In addition, Ron Hextall, the Kings’ assistant general manager, played for Murray during the Flyers’ run to the finals 11 years ago.
Murray has a career regular-season mark of 360-288-39 360-288-89 mark with the Flyers, Capitals and Panthers.
